云游 "Cloud Wandering" is the practice & stage in spiritual cultivators' life whereby one travels from place to place or even country to country.

The purpose of such travel is to shape ones mind by exposing oneself to different places, people, customs, traditions, climates and circumstances.

 

It has been noticed in spiritual traditions, that it is benefical to have such travels as one becomes less bound to the tethers to ones country of birth , culture and upbringing. Ideally, this makes one more well rounded, kind and accepting, which is important to advance in spiritual path.

 

During these travels, one is recommended to seek teachers, visit sacred places, dligently study and train, cultivate oneself and be of service to others.

 

Whilst these travels do not have to be indefinate and one can settle in one location, it is very beneficial for a cultivator to have an extended period of ones life where he or she "wanders like a cloud".
